Miramont Pointe Valiant Veteran’s Club Luncheon Features Guest Speaker, Noted Author and Columnist Ardis Stevenson

Author to Speak About Dusty’s War, a Book Based on Her Father’s Experiences in WWI  

CLACKAMAS, Ore. (Feb. 7, 2014) – Miramont Pointe, a senior living community, has invited local author and columnist Ardis Stevenson to be the featured guest speaker for its Valiant Veteran’s Club Luncheon at 11520 SE Sunnyside Road Friday, Feb. 21, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  The event is open to its residents, their families and the public. Stevenson will be speaking about her book Dusty’s War, based on her father’s World War I diary and conversations.

Stevenson is a newspaper columnist for the Lake Oswego Review and West Linn Tidings.  “We are excited to have such a locally-renown author and writer as Ardis Stevenson as our keynote speaker sharing her insights on Dusty’s War, her new book about her father’s military experience, a topic that hits home with our residents and the greater community, said Cynthia Herb, exectuive director, Miramont Pointe. “Our senior living community includes many military families, with one-third of our residents having served in the armed forces,” said Herb.

The schedule for the event is as follows:

11:30 a.m. –  12:30 p.m.– Lunch and speech at Miramont Pointe
12:30 p.m. to 1:00p.m.–Meet the author, book signing

This complimentary luncheon will be created by Executive Chef Chris Hudock, of Miramont Pointe’s Pacifica Restaurant.

Miramont Pointe’sValiant Veteran’s Club meets quarterly and is a Life Enrichment program for veterans and their spouses, friends and family members. The purpose of the club is to remember, reconnect, reminisce, remind, represent, revitalize, reach out, recognize, and  rejoice in our freedoms. The Valiant Veteran’s Club hosts luncheons and events, such as inviting historical and military related speakers to present at the senior living community. Miramont Pointe offers a five percent discount on rent for all veterans.

Paperback copies of the book will be available to purchase and be signed by the author at the event. Dusty’s War details the challenges encountered by a 24-year enlistee in the United State Army Air Service from 1917 to 1918. Chauncey Steven Miller, Jr. is Dusty, who learns through the journey, fear is sometimes necessary in the fight for survival. Journal and scrapbooks spanning 60 years document his life in riveting detail and help recreate his most significant moments.
